York

York

Hen dos need to be special; for many women, this means a trip to somewhere exotic for a weekend. However, on this occasion, I tagged along with a soon to be bride, Anna and her friends, as they chose a slightly different location for their pre-wedding celebrations.

Rather than spend a fortune on flights, the ladies in question decided to go for a two day trip to the beautiful town of York, where they could splash out on one of the lovely York hotels, great dinners and fabulous cocktails.

Starting off in style

York has a huge array of pubs, restaurants and clubs to choose from, so it’s no surprise that we ended up here for the ‘bachelorette’ weekend. After settling into our hotel, we decided it was time to start off the weekend with a York city cruise. We were lucky enough to experience the sights of the city on a warm evening, so we sat along the top deck, sipping the champagne and nibbles we had brought along, whilst we took in the bright lights of York city.

A Little Worse for Wear

After the cruise, it was time to get into the swing of things, with a trip to one of the 365 pubs of York. We decided on a late bar known as The Pivni, where we sampled several beers from around the world. After a rather hectic evening we got back to the hotel in the early hours of the morning.

Shopping!!

The next morning we set off to hit the shops of York. In Stonegate and Petergate, we managed to find some great jewellery and other bits and pieces. After a quick coffee stop, we made our way to the Fenwick’s department store, where we browsed through the luxury items and picked up one or two more treats for ourselves.

The Night Out!

After a fabulous dinner at the hotel that evening, we spent an hour or so getting ready. With some great music playing and a few glasses of wine, putting our make-up on was a fun experience in itself. We donned our matching hen-night t-shirts and gave the bride to be her obligatory colourful sash and other bachelorette accessories for the night. At about 8pm, we strolled along to Bobo Lobo, where we were served some elaborate and delicious cocktails. By the time 11pm rolled around, we were ready for some dancing, so we left the cocktails behind in favour of the dance floor at the Gallery nightclub. With a brilliant atmosphere and some great tunes, we scarcely noticed the time passing and ended up dancing the night away.

The next morning, our sore heads and sleepy dispositions required a little pick me up, so we dragged ourselves out of bed to have some much needed breakfast at Cafe Rouge. Our final stop off was at a spa, for a mini-pampering session before we headed home. At the 5 Senses Spa, we treated ourselves to a pedicure, manicure and half hour massage. Rested and recovered after our non-stop hen do weekend, we came home with smiles on our faces.
